Name of Assignment: Socratic Seminar
Subject: Humanities
Facilitator/Teacher: Ms.Terry
Summary: A socratic seminar is basically just a group discussion about a topic. The goal of the assignment is to have a thought provoking conversation with everyone. We have two rounds of discussions, there is topic one and topic two. With topic one we had to make a claim about anything we learned in class. In my group we talked about why agriculture is more effective than hunting. Topic 2 was just about any claim you have that is academic, it didn’t have to relate to anything we learned about in class. My claim 2 was Learning an instrument should be a more implemented subject in school, especially KIhei Charter.
The 21st century skill I used was my Global Awareness skills. I used my Global Awareness skills by having a discussion about people way before our time and how they had to live. We’re talking about a community thousands and thousands of years ago. If we were given their place, which one would we prefer, agriculture or hunting. We talked about how they felt about killing animals if it was hard for them or not. We really tried to understand how those people from way back when felt.
What I’m most proud of was that I was more vocal in this socratic seminar. I’ve done ones before in the past where I wasn’t as vocal. The most difficult part for me was coming up with my claims.
If I could start over what I would do differently is find a more original claim 1. I feel like a lot of people had the same claim as I did.
